Establishing the Dasher Empowerment Partnership with the National Urban League

2020 has been tremendously challenging for communities across America and DoorDash remains committed to helping our partners navigate these difficult times, as well as what comes next. That’s why, as part of our recently announced five-year, $200 million Main Street Strong pledge to support merchants, Dashers, and local communities, DoorDash and the National Urban League are working together on the “Dasher Empowerment Partnership.” This first-of-its-kind program is designed to help Dashers from underserved communities attain new job skills and entrepreneurial success, and build generational wealth through financial literacy training, educational funding, job programs, and more.

National Urban League President Marc Morial said, “As economic first responders, the National Urban League recognizes and appreciates the role DoorDash has played, not only in uplifting the communities hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, but in recognizing the structural inequalities that have contributed to our current crisis. We are grateful for the support of DoorDash and look forward to an ongoing partnership that empowers Dashers to achieve and succeed.”

Beginning in 2021, Dashers in a select number of cities, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston and Philadelphia will be able to participate in an exclusive program based upon the National Urban League’s curricula aimed at increasing and strengthening financial literacy, which includes credit building and savings. Dashers will then have the opportunity to select additional coaching in a number of areas such as entrepreneurship, asset building, and apprenticeship. The initial in-person offerings will later be supplemented by a digital component, enabling Dashers from across the country to benefit from the multi-year partnership.

This program builds on DoorDash’s commitment to create positive change in our communities and support the Dashers who help grow and empower local economies. We continue to be humbled and honored to help empower local economies, supporting businesses and creating greater economic opportunity and access to financial success. We are especially proud to partner together with the National Urban League on this important work and look forward to implementing the partnership in the coming weeks.

As our country looks to the new year and begins to build back from the COVID crisis, DoorDash will continue supporting local communities and powering local economies through our Main Street Strong program.
