Largest US On-Demand Local Delivery Platform Arrives in Stuttgart, Expanding to Europe for the First Time

DoorDash has arrived in Germany. The largest on-demand local delivery platform in the United States is launching in Stuttgart, expanding to Europe for the first time after Australia, Canada and Japan.

Founded in 2013, DoorDash helps local and national merchants reach new customers online and grow their businesses with its tools and services. DoorDash currently connects over 20 million customers each month in more than 7,000 cities with more than 500,000 local businesses and restaurants. This enables businesses of all kinds to thrive in the convenience economy as DoorDash connects consumers with the best restaurants and shops in their neighbourhood.

“We are delighted to have a presence in Europe with our entry into Germany. Our mission is to grow and empower local economies. The cornerstones of our platform are the merchants, the couriers, as well as the customers. We want to connect and support all three in the best possible way,” explains Andy Fang, Co-founder and CTO of DoorDash. “Stuttgart has an extremely diverse gastronomic scene, which we want to strengthen even further with DoorDash.”

Using the DoorDash app, consumers in Stuttgart can now order from a variety of local restaurants as well as national favorites, including Masseria, Carls Brauhaus, Enchilada, Mela Kaffee, Frittenwerk, Wirtshaus Drive and key enterprise players popular across Germany, such as KFC, Burger King, Back Werk & L’Osteria.

DoorDash is also offering Stuttgart merchants access to DoorDash’s Storefront product, a personalized online ordering system that allows a restaurant’s customers to place takeout and delivery orders directly with the business. Merchants who are looking for ways to reach their existing customer bases can add Storefront to their websites to implement online ordering seamlessly.

Both Storefront and the DoorDash marketplace app power delivery and takeaway. Customers can either place an order and couriers deliver to the specified location or they can order products in advance and pick them up when ready. DoorDash is committed to helping merchant partners and restaurants deliver on the promise of digital commerce For the Germany launch, Storefront will be commission-free for businesses through the end of the year, with the only cost to the merchants being payment processing fees.

“We are very happy to be able to work with DoorDash right from the start, in Stuttgart,” says Caroline de Sadeleer, who runs the Healthy Deli “Masseria” in Stuttgart. “Unlike other providers, DoorDash supports us merchants and restaurateurs much more comprehensively with products like Storefront. The tech platform helps us to build a successful local online business in addition to our stores and to optimally tailor our offers to the needs of our customers.

With its expansion into Germany, DoorDash also attaches great importance to the issue of sustainability. For example, the platform wants its deliveries to be as climate-neutral as possible. In addition to e-bikes for couriers, DoorDash has partnered with Watershed, an organization that aims to support companies with very specific projects to achieve a balanced carbon footprint. After each order, customers are given the option in the DoorDash app to select how the CO2 emissions generated will be offset. DoorDash has also partnered with Zoomo, a specialist for micro mobility, which also advocates for carbon-free cities to provide E- bikes to its couriers to promote carbon neutral deliveries.

DoorDash startet in Deutschland
