Expanding our convenience vertical to provide on-demand access to more everyday essentials

By Mike Goldblatt, Head of Grocery Partnerships, and Fuad Hannon, Head of New Verticals

The global pandemic has dramatically changed all aspects of our lives, including the way people shop. Delivery and takeout are no longer considered just a convenience, but a lifeline for those who have come to depend on the reliability of on-demand services to access their everyday needs. That’s why we accelerated the launch of our Convenience vertical in April to provide customers with access to the grocery, convenience, wellness and household supplies they need to care for themselves and their families.

Today we announced our collaboration with Walgreens, where Walgreens will be offering on-demand delivery of thousands of Walgreens items on DoorDash. Customers in select cities will have access to more than 2,000 convenience, health, and wellness essentials including beauty products, over-the-counter medications, and grocery and snack foods. So whether you’ve just squeezed the last drop out of the shampoo bottle, have a mid-afternoon hankering for a power drink and some chips, or need some quick headache relief, we’ve got you covered with our unmatched Walgreens selection. The large variety of products allows customers to get everything they need in a pinch without having to leave the house to do so.

Residents living in Chicago, Atlanta, and Denver have access to Walgreens stores on-demand today, and we plan to expand throughout the country to offer more than 5,000 items on the DoorDash app starting with several major markets this summer including Cincinnati, Cleveland, Minneapolis, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, Sacramento and Seattle. We look forward to continuing to build upon this collaboration to offer thousands of Americans access to thousands of Walgreens items on-demand, and provide our customers with convenience at the touch of a button.

To kick things off, DoorDash is offering customers 20% off of Walgreens items via the DoorDash app and website on their first order of $15 or more (up to $5 maximum savings). Walgreens is also available on DashPass, our subscription service that offers members unlimited free delivery fees and reduced service fees from hundreds of thousands of local and national businesses nationwide. DashPass members can enjoy these benefits on all Walgreens purchases on orders of $12 or more.

The addition of Walgreens to our platform follows recent launches in the Convenience space with partners including 7-Eleven, WaWa, Casey’s, and CVS Pharmacy. It has always been our goal to expand into new verticals that will provide all local businesses with access to reach customers online, and this collaboration brings us one step closer to doing just that.
