Partnering with UnidosUS to Empower Latinos Through the Caminos Initiative

Even before the pandemic, the Hispanic and Latin community in the United States faced barriers to economic mobility which were exacerbated by COVID-19. At DoorDash, our mission to empower local economies is animated by our work to support Dashers, merchants, and the communities that power them. We’re proud to support the Hispanic and Latin community by providing restaurateurs grants and training through our Main Street Strong Accelerator, translating our Restaurant University series into Spanish, and ensuring other capacity-building resources are available. Today, we are excited to announce a partnership with UnidosUS that will provide a financial empowerment program, grants to broaden food access, and support for civic engagement programs and immigration education.

Our partnership features a signature financial empowerment initiative, Caminos, that provides local and virtual programming to U.S. Dashers who want to develop job skills, build a business, or improve their financial well-being. Through the UnidosUS affiliate network, Caminos will locally administer bilingual workforce development programs focused on upskilling or starting micro/small businesses, providing individuals with digital literacy and job readiness skills needed for upward mobility, and improving pathways to employment for jobseekers. Caminos will also provide access for local affiliate program participants as well as U.S. Dashers, no matter their location, to remote online financial coaching to support them as they pursue their financial goals through individualized, bilingual English and Spanish services from the UnidosUS Financial Empowerment Network.

“Everyone deserves an opportunity to succeed at their workplace. That’s why we’re excited about our new partnership with DoorDash to provide Latino workers with the skills they need to succeed in the jobs of the 21st Century,” said Janet Murguía, UnidosUS President and CEO. “This collaboration will allow us and our network of Affiliates to expand our current workforce development programs and provide innovative training and employment opportunities to hundreds more workers. Thanks to DoorDash’s major new support, we can put even more people, families, and communities on the path to greater financial stability and prosperity.”

Caminos programming is available online and in 10 cities nationwide including:

  • Brooklyn, New York

  • Chicago, Illinois

  • Denver, Colorado

  • Houston, Texas

  • Miami, Florida

  • Queens, New York

  • San Diego, California

  • San Francisco, California

  • Seattle, Washington

  • Washington, D.C.

In addition to our financial empowerment programming, our partnership will help broaden food access in the Latino community, which faces challenges related to obtaining healthy, nutritious food, by incorporating Project DASH with Unidos’ food insecurity program, Comprando Rico y Sano, to supplement nutrition training with grants for food delivery. The UnidosUS and DoorDash partnership will also include support for immigration policy education and civic engagement through their Latino Empowerment and Advocacy Program (LEAP) by identifying opportunities for engagement by integrating voter registration and education activities into existing services.

In the coming months, we look forward to sharing stories about how our partnership with UnidosUS is empowering Latino Dashers, merchants, and communities across the U.S. To find more information and sign up for Caminos programming, please visit www.caminosunidos.com.
